Global VC investment in SaaS companies reached $16.5 billion in 2014, according to the PitchBook Platform, far above the $6.5 billion average over the three years prior. In the past four years, over 1,900 firms have participated in at least one of the 4,654 venture rounds that brought the space over $32 billion in funding. 86% of the capital invested found its way to North America, where some 1,200 of the investors are headquartered. Europe has commanded the second-largest amount of capital invested of any global region for the time period, though last year it was Asia that accounted for the second-largest portion ($1.42B). Of the investors that have backed SaaS companies, 170 manage $1 billion or more in AUM, with 40 managing $4 billion+; 761 have made at least one such investment in the past six months.
