Since the start of 2014, over 1,000 global VC investors have participated in at least one Series B financing, according to the PitchBook Platform, combining to close 1,045 rounds at an aggregate value of $19.4 billion. To no surprise, capital invested in Series B rounds has skyrocketed amid a recent industry-wide surge in valuations, with 3Q netting a record $3.8 billion in such financings (a 58% bump from the third quarter of 2014). Outside of software, the industry groups that have netted the most capital in the past two years are pharma/biotech (13.5%), commercial services (8.4%), retail (6.4%) and media (4.2%). Of all the Series B investors in this timeframe, 141 manage assets totaling at least $1 billion.
