One of the largest PE announcements of the young year so far, Onex's agreement to acquire Warburg Pincus's Survitec, took our attention to the United Kingdom on Monday (read more about the news in our Europe section). For a closer look at the region, we explored the PitchBook Platform, which shows deal count in the U.K. has steadily increased each year since 2009.
One of the largest jumps in activity happened from 2012 to 2013, though last year was the most active of the past decade at almost 560 deals—a nearly 9% YOY increase from 2013. Not surprisingly, the most active firms in the region are headquartered natively; over the past 10 years, The Carlyle Group is the only "outside" investor not based in the U.K. to rank in the top 15 for completed deals.
