Truecaller Announces $18.8M Raise, Partnership with Yelp
February 10, 2014
Truecaller, the provider of a verified mobile phone directory, has raised $18.8 million in Series B funding led by Sequoia Capital, with participation from existing backer Open Ocean Capital and a couple of individual investors. The service, available on the Web or as an app for multiple platforms, enables users to expand their contact list, reach people they want to find, more easily identify who is calling their cell phone and protect their identity from unwanted spammers. Truecaller previously raised a $1.3 million Series A round led by Open Ocean in 2012.
Along with the new financing, the company also announced that it has partnered with Yelp, a move that will allow Truecaller users to identify and verify business numbers that are calling their smart phone. Truecaller will use the proceeds from the Series B investment to expand its business into the U.S., where it has not yet established a large presence.
