Uber, Ola launch ridesharing motorbike services in India
March 08, 2016
The ongoing fight for global market share in the ridesharing space has been interesting to watch. Though Uber has had extreme success in the U.S., it has found it much harder to dominate up-and-coming markets like India and China, where local companies have been able to flourish.
Uber just announced that it has expanded its motorbike service, which previously launched and was only available in Bangkok, to Bangalore. While this may seem like great progress for the $64.5 billion company, it’s worth noting that India-based competitor Ola also launched its motorbike service in Bangalore this week, providing yet another obstacle for Uber's plans of increasing market share in the country. Ola has more experience and more partners in India, which could give it a leg up in this race. Keep an eye on how this battle for one of the larger cities in India plays out, as securing a large part of the Bangalore market would be a huge win for either company.
