US PE activity slides—excluding Dell-EMC, deal value falls 29% QoQ
October 13, 2016
The private equity buyout cycle continues to slow. Even if totals are revised upward as more data is gathered, currently, 3Q saw fewer than 700 completed transactions in the US. Moreover, even though PE deal value hit $171 billion in the same period—putting 2016 on pace to match 2015 and 2014—it's critical to note that no less than $60 billion is attributable to the Dell-EMC merger. Excluding that massive sum, deal value actually fell by 29% quarter over quarter.
