U.S. PE Investment-to-Exit Ratio Hits 1.7x, Lowest in a Decade

U.S. private equity deal flow is trending steadily downward according to our 3Q 2015 U.S. PE Breakdown. High multiples resulting from intensified competition appear to finally be taking a toll on overall activity. The middle market—especially its core and lower end—are bright spots still, but on the whole, today's market is not one for buyers. It is definitely a seller's market, however; sales to strategics, for one, hit $160 billion in 1H, just $7 billion below 2014's record total.
