U.S. VC activity took quite the drop moving from 2Q to 3Q. As outlined in our 4Q 2015 U.S. Venture Industry Report, 1,444 financings were completed, a 22% QoQ drop and 34% YoY. While counts were down substantially, however, value remained inflated and actually increased. $21.6 billion in venture capital was invested in the U.S. during 3Q, greater than even the record $21.2 billion invested in 2Q.
Valuations for venture-backed companies remain high, and with exit activity beginning to decline, the ability to generate substantial returns from sales may be becoming increasingly difficult. So, what course will U.S. VC activity take in the near future? In this latest VIR, we present data and related information covering fundraising metrics, investment by stage and sector, and much more to help analyze the question above and other related trends.
