VC Capital Doesn't Fall Far from the Buckeye... State
June 07, 2013
Since the beginning of 2006, VC investors have backed 200 Ohio-based companies, according to the PitchBook Platform. And the number of deals in the state each year has been on the rise, nearly tripling from 27 financings in 2006 to 74 in 2012. Last year was the most active year by far in that timeframe, both in terms of capital invested and number of financings, with a total of over $350 million invested across 74 deals. Among the deals contributing to last year’s lively activity were ViewRay’s $45 million Series C round and Manta Media’s $44 million funding.
The Buckeye State has several loyal local investors, as well. Over a quarter of all the investors that have funded Ohio companies since 2006 have been headquartered there themselves, including the top three investors for the region during the time period: Cleveland-based JumpStart and Early Stage Partners and Cincinnati-based CincyTech.
