After years of relatively low venture capital activity in Missouri, the state has seen a significant increase in the number of VC financings for companies based within its borders. Since the beginning of 2005, VC investors have completed 198 deals involving Missouri-headquartered companies, according to the PitchBook Platform. About 43% of those deals were completed within just a two-year period (2011-2012). Additionally, 2011 and 2012 each had more than double the number of deals than any other year in the timeframe, tallying 41 and 44 deals, respectively. With 25 deals to date, the current year seems to be following the trend, already outproducing each year between 2005 and 2010 in terms of deals completed. Within the past month alone, four Missouri-based companies have scored VC cash: Kypha, MediBeacon, Observable Networks and aisle411.
