So far in 2014, 41 Europe-focused VC funds have closed on almost $7 billion in commitments, a level not reached through such vehicles since 2010. Far fewer of these funds have closed in 2014 (41) than in 2010 (77), but the median fund size this year has hit $116 million, the highest figure in at least a decade. 10 funds have closed on over $300 million in committed capital, including Winch Capital 3, which closed at €300 million. After fund count dropped each of the past three years (hitting a low of 38 in 2013), 2014 saw an increase in the number of funds closed. This year's rise can be partially attributed to Western Europe, where strong fundraising has accounted for 35 of the funds and over 90% of the total capital raised.
