Since the beginning of 2007, VC investors have invested in 163 Florida-headquartered companies, according to the PitchBook Platform. As far as total capital invested, IT predictably reigns supreme, but Florida’s B2C industry has rivaled the state’s Healthcare space during that time, accounting for nearly a fifth of the total deal flow, compared to around 23% for Healthcare. 2012 was the most active year by far for the Florida B2C industry, accounting for over $290 million of VC investment. Contributing to last year’s spike in the B2C space were deals for IMI Exchange and Despegar.com, which completed $100 million and $92.5 million financings, respectively.
