Since the start of 2011, the number of VC deals in Colorado has risen each year to a high of 175 in 2014, according to the PitchBook Platform. During that span, 365 companies HQ'd in the state have combined to raise over $3.4 billion through 700+ financings, 99 of which totaled at least $10 million each.
IT has held strong as the top industry by deal count, topping out at nearly 80 deals in each of the past two years. B2C has shown the most growth, steadily rising from 14 deals in 2011 to 35 last year; the sector has already seen 16 investments thus far in 2015. The median pre-money valuation of VC-backed Colorado companies fell to $9.9 million in 2012 ($3.6 million below the median for all U.S.-based financings), but that metric has risen each year since, reaching $25.2 million so far in 2015 ($2.2 million below the national median).
