Since the start of 2010, 879 different Texas-based companies have completed at least one VC deal, according to the PitchBook Platform, raising a combined $9.9 billion over 1,646 rounds. During the time period, venture capital invested in Texas has increased each year, rising from $1.4 billion in 2010 to $2.4 billion in 2014—the largest jump occurring between 2013 and 2014 (28%). Deal flow in the state has also been climbing. In fact, the number of VC deals completed in Texas increased each year between 2008 (187) and 2013 (388), with 2014 (353) seeing a relatively minor decline from the previous year's decade-high total. The state's IT sector has garnered an increasing share of the deal flow for two straight years (growing from 41% to 48%), while its energy sector's share has slipped for four straight years (falling from 8% in 2010 to 4% in 2014).
