Video Discovery Service Matcha.tv Acquired by Apple
August 15, 2013
Recently shut down Matcha.tv, a streaming TV and video streaming app, has been acquired by Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL). The company was seeded last year with $20,000 from startup incubator Media Camp. Matcha.tv was an iOS app that combined content from several video services—Netflix, Hulu and, of course, iTunes—enabling users to watch from a universal queue and discover personalized viewing recommendations. Apple reportedly paid between $1 million and $1.5 million for the company. One happy Media Camp, if true.
