Vista Equity Partners has closed its roughly $1.8 billion acquisition of Marketo (NASDAQ: MKTO), an engagement marketing software provider with more than 4,600 customers worldwide. Originally announced May 31, the transaction received approval by Marketo's shareholders July 28. The company will remain headquartered in San Mateo, CA.
The deal complements Vista's portfolio of investments in software, data and tech-driven businesses, as well as its operating model for high-growth SaaS companies. According to the PitchBook Platform, Vista is by far the most active PE investor in software since 2011, completing 87 deals (including add-ons). The Marketo deal ranks as the firm's fourth largest behind its acquisitions of Solera, TIBCO and Misys, transactions that reached a combined total of about $13 billion.
