VMware (NYSE: VMW) has agreed to acquire AirWatch for approximately $1.175 billion in cash and about $365 million of installment payments and assumed unvested equity. AirWatch, which provides enterprise mobile management and security solutions, last year raised a $200 million Series A funding round led by Insight Venture Partners, with participation from Accel Partners.
With more than 10,000 customers globally and more than 1,600 employees across nine global offices, AirWatch provides enterprise solutions for mobile device management, mobile application management and mobile content management for the increasingly mobile workforce. The AirWatch team will continue to report to founder and CEO John Marshall as part of VMware's End-User Computing group. Willkie Farr & Gallagher represented Insight and Accel on the deal.
