There's been a lot of recent media coverage discussing the markdowns that Fidelity Investments has undertaken for private companies in its mutual funds. But the causes and implications of these markdowns have been greatly exaggerated, according to PitchBook analyst Nizar Tarhuni, who points out that Fidelity's recent markdowns may be more an accounting measure than anything else.
