Investors have planted $726.4 million in seed funding on the west coast since 2008, according to the PitchBook Platform. The three most active seed-stage investors on the west coast are SV Angel, Y Combinator and 500 Startups. Along with the total capital invested, the median deal size for seed rounds on the west coast has risen following a low in 2009, growing from $750,000 to currently stand at $1.1 million this year. However, Scopely's recent $8.5 million financing is still a definite outlier when it comes to seed-stage deals. In the U.S. as a whole, the median deal size for seed rounds has held steady around $800,000 for the last several years, also up from a low in 2009, when the median seed round was $600,000.
