May 20, 2014
Whisper, an anonymous social-sharing app, has raised $36 million in venture financing from investors including Tencent, Thrive Capital and Shasta Ventures, along with existing investors Sequoia Capital and Lightspeed Ventures. The new financing brings the total fundraised by the company to $60 million in just over a year. The company last raised a $21 million Series B in July 2013 from Sequoia, Lightspeed and Trinity Ventures.
The Whisper app allows users to anonymously post secretive thoughts and feelings for others nearby to see, as well as search for related posts. Its last reported monthly-view number was 3 billion; the company states it is now much higher.
