Yahoo has acquired Luminate, an image advertising and related content network, and will shut down the service completely on October 1, 2014. Prior to the acquisition, Luminate raised close to $29 million, including an almost $11 million Series C round raised at a $111 million valuation. Its backers included Google Ventures, Shasta Ventures, Foundation Capital and August Capital, among others. Luminate's platform combined computer vision, machine learning and crowdsourcing technology to deliver optimal ads and content to images. Luminate is the fourth company to be acquired by Yahoo since the start of August, joining Flurry, ClarityRay and Zofari.
