Car-washing startup Cherry has been acquired by Zimride, a VC-backed provider of online ridesharing services. As part of the deal, Cherry co-founder and CEO Travis VanderZanden joins Zimride as COO. San Francisco-based Cherry was the creator of a web-based app, now defunct, that enabled users to schedule a carwash wherever they were parked. The company closed multiple funding rounds, including a $4.5 million Series A round in April 2012. Exiting investors include Founders Fund, Shasta Ventures and individual investors. Zimride provides a platform for drivers to sell empty seats, connecting them with potential riders through social networks.
