Cybersecurity is in the news every day, from foreign governments stealing top secret info ... to document leaks ... to the battle over encrypted devices. It's surely no surprise then that VC firms worldwide have greatly increased their investment in the space since 2013, participating in a record $3.65 billion worth of financings last year. During that timeframe, 726 VC investors have completed at least one cybersecurity deal; 224 have been active within the past six months.
The U.S. government has also taken special notice of digital threats after a series of breaches led to government employee data being stolen. To address the problem, President Barack Obama recently announced a plan to secure its databases and agencies, including a proposal to invest over $19 billion in cybersecurity as part of the fiscal 2017 budget—a potential 35% YoY increase in overall government resources allocated to the space.
