U.S. and Canadian exit activity in the Aerospace and Defense industry has rocketed to a high level in 2012. With not even half the year passed, private equity investors have already sold or taken public ten companies involved in the Aerospace and Defense industry, zooming by last year's final tally of eight completed exits. In total, PE investors have exited 44 companies involved in the industry since the beginning of 2007, according to the PitchBook Platform. Although corporate acquisitions have been the most popular exit strategy in the industry during the entire observed time period with a 53% share of the activity, secondary buyouts have also seen strong activity, particularly since 2010, and have accounted for 50% of the exit activity in 2012 to date.
