Amazon to spread wings with latest Middle East deal
September 07, 2017
Amazon subsidiary Souq.com has agreed to purchase Wing.ae, the provider of a marketplace for merchants and couriers in the UAE. The deal will allow Amazon to introduce same-day and next-day delivery to customers of Souq.com, which operates an ecommerce marketplace that delivers to the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Egypt, among other locations. Amazon closed its acquisition of Souq.com in July after beating an $800 million bid from shopping mall developer Emaar Malls in March.
Founded just last year, the Wing.ae platform provides a web- and mobile-based on-demand marketplace that connects customers with a network of contracted delivery companies. Shortly after its launch, the Dubai-based startup reportedly secured seed funding from Souq.com.
