TechCrunch founder Michael Arrington started the TC-to-VC trend when he left the blog after its sale to AOL in 2010. Arrington and college friend Patrick Gallagher teamed up to launch CrunchFund in 2011, but the effort fizzled, and Arrington announced last April his intent to take a step back from full-time investing. Another ex-TC writer to move to venture is M.G. Siegler, a general partner at GV who led the firm’s investments in Medium, Slack and Stripe, among other companies.
