Apax to buy German lens maker Rodenstock in €1.5B deal

Apax Partners has agreed to acquire Rodenstock Group from Compass Partners, with Bloomberg reporting the deal values the company at €1.5 billion, including debt. Founded in 1877, Munich-based Rodenstock makes prescription lenses for eyewear. The company has some 4,900 employees worldwide, and distribution partners in more than 85 countries. Compass has backed Rodenstock since 2016, when it partnered with HarbourVest Partners to purchase the company from Bridgepoint.
