Berkshire Takes Over The World...Of Eyeglasses

National Vision, a portfolio company of Berkshire Partners, has purchased Eyeglass World from Vision Care Holdings, which is owned by Summit Partners. Eyeglass World operates 64 stores and will continue to operate under the same name. Berkshire Partners acquired National Vision in 2005.
According to the PitchBook Platform, there have been six eyeglass retailer acquisitions by private equity investors, with a median deal size of $52.5 million. The lastest deal, prior to Berkshire's acquisition, was Refac Optical Group's investment in U.S. Vision in March 2006.
