Chinese coal mining, power plant companies mull $267B merger

China's largest coal mining group, Shenhua (SSE: 601088), and China Guodian (SSE: 600268), one of its biggest coal-fired power companies, have entered merger discussions, with Bloomberg reporting that a successful deal would create a combined company with assets valued at 1.82 trillion yuan (about $267 billion). The companies have halted trading as part of the talks.
