David Beckham moves into esports with Guild launch

Guild Esports has launched with the backing of soccer legend David Beckham as a co-owner. The company runs esports teams and player academies in various esports arenas including "Fortnite" and "FIFA".
The London-based business is looking to raise £25 million at a £100 million valuation, according to the Financial Times. Beckham is taking a significant minority stake through his personal investment vehicle DB Ventures. The company is also backed by Blue Star Capital.
Esports have been relatively unscathed by the COVID-19 crisis as traditional live sports have had to shut down under lockdown rules. The global esports market is expected to grow 42% in the next three years to be worth $1.56 billion. The number of fans is estimated to reach 646 million by 2023, compared with 495 million at the moment.
