Did Colorado Deals Hit a Rocky Mountain High Last Year?
September 20, 2012- Share:
Investors have dumped a mountainous $2.23 billion in venture capital into companies headquartered in Colorado since 2009, according to the PitchBook Platform. VC activity spiked to 97 financings last year, giving 2011 the highest deal count on record for the state. However, with a whopping $918 million, 2008 still holds the record for most capital invested. Two Colorado-based companies raised rounds over $100 million that year—ethanol producer Range Fuels and solar panel manufacturer Abound Solar—accounting for a large portion of the state's total funding. With the deal count at 65 so far this year, a summit above 2011 is not likely, but the count is on pace to climb over previous years.
