EQT hits €15.6B close on latest buyout fund

EQT has held a €15.6 billion final close for the ninth iteration of its flagship buyout fund, making it the largest close by a European firm so far this year.

The vehicle, which exceeded its €15 billion hard cap set in March, is EQT's first core fund close since the Stockholm-based investor went public in 2019 and is more than 40% larger than its predecessor, which amassed €10.91 billion in 2018.

Fund IX also ranks among the largest buyout vehicles raised by a European firm, beaten only by CVC Capital Partners' last two flagship funds, which raised €21.3 billion and €16 billion respectively in 2020 and 2017.

Around 70% of Fund IX's commitments come from LPs from Fund VIII. The new vehicle, which launched in January 2020, made its first investment last July and is now nearly 45% deployed.

Fund IX will continue to target investments in Europe and the US, including healthcare, industrial technology, and technology, media and telecom.
