Gilead ups Galapagos stake as part of $5.1B deal

Gilead Sciences will invest $5.1 billion into biotech company Galapagos. The American giant will pay $3.95 billion upfront to gain rights outside of Europe to the Belgian business' treatments, and will also spend $1.1 billion to increase its stake from around 12.3% to 22%. Galapagos will use the funds to expand and invest in R&D.
