GTCR eyes $1B human capital deal

GTCR has entered exclusive talks to acquire job-search website CareerBuilder from its current owners, including newspaper conglomerates McClatchy (NYSE: MNI) and Tribune Media (NYSE: TRCO), for more than $1 billion, according to Reuters. GTCR won an auction for the business and is now attempting to finalize terms, although the negotiations may still stall, again per Reuters.

If a transaction does go through, it would be the latest indicator of PE’s growing interest in the human capital services slice of the larger B2B sector. Investors completed 98 private equity deals in the space during 2016, according to the PitchBook Platform, the highest figure since the financial crisis. And of the more than 600 deals to be completed in the industry since the start of 2009, only three have exceeded the $1 billion mark.
