Healthcare-Related Companies Feeling Fit in North Carolina
November 14, 2013
With North Carolina being home to numerous nationally ranked hospitals, it’s no surprise that North Carolina-based companies involved in the healthcare industry have attracted some serious VC cash. According to the PitchBook Platform, healthcare-related companies headquartered in The Tarheel State have landed 107 VC investments since the beginning of 2009. Those companies pulled in over $1 billion in funding within the timeframe, which represented about 60% of the total capital invested in the region during the same time period.
TearScience’s $70 million investment earlier this year tops the list of the largest healthcare financings in North Carolina since 2009. This year has already surpassed 2012’s invested capital, with about $250 million poured into 18 deals to date, compared to last year’s $239 million of VC funding across 20 deals.
