GI Partners has completed its sale of SoftLayer Technologies, a cloud computing infrastructure provider, to IBM (NYSE: IBM). Minority co-investors Clearspring Capital Group and Vencore Capital also found their exits with the sale. Headquartered in Dallas, SoftLayer allows its clients to buy enterprise-class cloud services on dedicated or shared servers, offering clients a choice of where to deploy their applications. GI Partners acquired and merged dedicated-hosting companies The Planet and EV1 in 2006. Four years later, the firm bought SoftLayer and merged the company with The Planet.
