The General Electric and AES joint venture Greenhouse Gas Services has acquired StormFisher Biogas. Denham Capital Management was an investor in StormFisher and exchanged its ownership interest for a stake in Greenhouse Gas Services. StormFisher is a renewable energy company that builds, owns and operates distributed generation biogas plants in North America. Greenhouse Gas invests in and develops projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and sells the GHG credits to companies for offsetting greenhouse gas emissions.
Since the beginning of 2007, twenty geothermal companies have received investments from private equity firms, according to the PitchBook Platform. 2007 and 2008 were the most active with 11 deals apiece, followed by 2009 with three and 2010 with one so far. Investments in the industry were primarily growth capital and acquisition financing, demonstrating the industry's general early stage of development.
