KKR, Rakuten wrap up $1.6B deal for Japanese supermarket

KKR and Rakuten have completed a previously announced deal to acquire Japanese supermarket chain Seiyu from Walmart in a deal that previous reports indicated valued the business at 172.5 billion yen (about $1.6 billion). KKR will own a 65% stake, Rakuten will own a 20% stake and Walmart will retain the remaining 15% in equity.
