German airline Lufthansa has won the right to bid on the assets of Air Berlin before others can make offers during the opening round of negotiations for the bankrupt carrier's goods, with Reuters reporting that Lufthansa could acquire up to 90 of the 140 leased aircrafts in the Air Berlin fleet. Other potential bidders include budget carrier easyJet and German carrier Condor, but any sale may require multiple buyers because of antitrust concerns, again per Reuters. Air Berlin filed for bankruptcy on Tuesday after shareholder Etihad Airways withdrew its backing.
