Swedish home goods retailer Ikea has agreed to acquire TaskRabbit. The on-demand labor provider, which will continue to operate independently, already offers pickup, delivery and assembly services to Ikea customers, and the two companies piloted a partnership in London last year. The acquisition echoes the move in May by IAC to buy Angie's List in a $500 million deal.
The shift to online shopping has forced brick-and-mortar retailers to expand beyond selling products and offer add-on services as well. Earlier this month, Kohl's announced a partnership that will allow customers to return Amazon merchandise in select stores.
