Seattle game publisher Meteor Entertainment has bagged $18 million to build out Hawken, a free-to-play, multiplayer shooter game that puts players "in the pilot seat of a giant robotic war." Hawken is making waves in the gaming community by chasing after the success of League of Legends, the game created by formerly venture-backed Riot Games (acquired by Tencent for $400 million early last year). Ironically, Meteor's funding came from two former Riot investors, Benchmark Capital and FirstMark Capital, as well as Rustic Canyon Venture.
