Canada-based HootSuite, a social media management system, just landed a big investment—a really big investment. The company’s $165 million financing represents the largest deal ever in Canadian venture capital history, and has certainly contributed to the country’s rising VC trend. Since the beginning of 2009, VC investors have bankrolled 436 Canada-based companies, according to the PitchBook Platform. During that timeframe, the number of deals completed each year has increased, rising 163% from 72 in 2009 to 189 in 2012. The current year’s deal count has already reached 114, on pace to yet again best the previous year’s total.
