According to PitchBook's recently released 2Q 2010 Private Equity Breakdown, U.S. PE investment levels are on the up and up, posting the third straight quarterly increase in deal flow. In total, 304 deals with a total value of over $14 billion were closed during the quarter. The middle-market continued to account for the majority of the deal flow, with over 80% of all transactions during the quarter valued at $250 million and below. The focus for many PE investors remains supporting and growing their current portfolio companies as shown by the stat that add-ons accounted for 31.8% of all deals during the first quarter, the highest in 2 1/2 years.
