The Northwest is probably more known for its venture capital scene than its private equity scene, given techy Seattle's strength in the IT sector. Private equity investors haven't shied away from the region, though. Since the beginning of 2010, 221 Northwest-headquartered companies have taken in PE investments, according to the PitchBook Platform. Washington and Oregon accounted for most of the deal activity in the area, with 54% and 31% shares, respectively. The region's deal count hit 73 last year, its highest since 2008. Some of the biggest deals in the past few years have involved technology-related companies, including The Carlyle Group's $3.3 billion buyout of Getty Images late last year.
