UC Synergetic, a portfolio company of Falfurrias Capital Partners, has acquired PowerComm Engineering. The company provides advanced engineering solutions for the electric utility and wireless telecommunications markets. The acquisition will strengthen UC Synergetic's transmission engineering and related services offerings. Wells Fargo is providing financing for the transaction.
Private equity firms have acquired 18 other engineering firms since the beginning of 2007, according to the PitchBook Platform. This is only the third deal in the sector this year, the most recent being Clearview Capital's $32 million carveout of En Engineering. 2007 was the busiest period for engineering companies with 11 acquisitions. The variety of these engineering companies is fairly wide, some civil (Joseph B. Fay Company), some energy-related (Synergetic Design) and others government-focused (Schoell Madson).
