Spire Capital Partners-backed Certiport has acquired MeasureUp, a provider of IT certification practice tests and assessments. Certiport is a provider of test delivery services, and its acquisition of MeasureUp increases its ability to offer services that cover the entire certification process. Spire acquired its stake in Certiport when it made a growth investment in the company in 2007.
There have been 127 PE deals involving Education and Training companies since the beginning of 2007, according to the PitchBook Platform. Deal activity boomed in the industry in 2007 with 54 deals, and even through the recession, deal activity in the counter-cyclical industry remained steady with 34 deals in 2008 and 29 last year. PE investors seem to believe the education sector will continue to be a good investment over the next few years as 2010 is on track to top 2009's total deal count. 104 investors have made an investment in the industry, and 35 returned to make at least one more. Top investors in the industry include The Riverside Company (8 deals), Chicago Growth Partners (7), Sterling Partners (5) and Providence Equity Partners (3).
