Software Helps Boot Up IT Investment from Sleep Mode

PE investors have completed 227 investments in U.S.-based IT companies so far this year, bringing the total count of deals since the beginning of 2008 to 1,052, according to the PitchBook Platform. IT investment activity has yet to return to the heights of the boom years, which topped out at 284 deals in 2007, but it has been making a solid recovery in the post-financial crisis era. This year's IT deal flow has been spearheaded by the industry's Software sector, whose share has been gradually climbing from 44% in 2008 to 54% for 2012 to date. With 123 deals completed so far this year, the sector has tied its final deal count for 2011. Another hot sector for the industry in 2012 has been IT Services with a 21% share, up from 16% last year.
