Cadence Design Systems (NASDAQ: CDNS), a designer and manufacturer of semiconductor devices, announced that it has agreed to acquire Tensilica, a provider of configurable dataplane processing units (DPUs), for approximately $380 million in cash. Based in Santa Clara, CA, Tensilica provides configurable DPUs that are optimized for embedded data and signal processing targeted at mobile wireless, network infrastructure, auto infotainment and home applications. The company has a long history of venture capital funding from exiting investors DoCoMo Capital, Foundation Capital, Meritech Capital Partners, Oak Investment Partners and Worldview Technology Partners, among others.
