After a year noticeably barren of VC-backed tech IPOs, the recent successful offerings of companies such as Talend, The Trade Desk and Apptio appear to have left the window ajar. And while the warm reception for those companies has surely been noticed across the industry, investors in enterprise tech may be rejoicing the most, considering the majority of these IPOs have been for B2B-oriented tech companies.
With that in mind, we took a look at the most active venture investors in the business software vertical to see who may stand to benefit if this IPO trend continues. Since the beginning of 2013, 1,671 VCs have participated in at least one of the 2,292 deals backing business software companies in the US, according to the PitchBook Platform. While capital invested increased constantly from 2013 ($4.1 billion) to 2015 ($8.4 billion), deal count remained relatively steady. That relationship is reflected in average deal size, which has increased from $3 million in 2013 to $6 million so far in 2016.
