Since the beginning of last year, 1,468 VC investors have participated in at least one of the 1,163 Series A deals completed with US-based startups, according to the PitchBook Platform. Those rounds account for about $11.6 billion in cumulative capital invested.
The IT industry has commanded the largest proportion of the deal count, coming in at roughly 49%, and is followed in frequency by healthcare (21%) and B2C (16%), per PitchBook data. Median deal size in 2016 hit $6.1 million, while that figure sits at $8 million so far this year. Median valuation has also followed an upward trend, rising from $23.9 million last year to $28.8 million to date in 2017.
